Thailand's Constitutional Court has just ruled that Samak must resign for having made paid appearances on a television show while holding office. The PPP party plans to reinstate Samak as party leader and prime minister -- surely a violation of the spirit, if not the letter of the law.
On the other hand, it ought to be asked: had the spirit of the ethics law really been broken when Samak hosted the cooking shows? The country's political crisis looks set to continue, observes Seth Mydans of the IHT. It almost certainly will.
