Obama philosophy

Call it Obamism. One passage of Obama's speech got straight to the heart of Obama's philosophy of government. His words are consistent with my prior sense as to how Obama prefers to approach policy choices:
We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country. The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than for those plagued by gang-violence in Cleveland, but don't tell me we can't uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals. I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in the hospital and to live lives free of discrimination. Passions fly on immigration, but I don't know anyone who benefits when a mother is separated from her infant child or an employer undercuts American wages by hiring illegal workers. This too is part of America's promise - the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort.
I have no doubt Obama is sincere when he speaks out on behalf of this approach.

For God's sake man, HOW can you put the words Obama and Philosophy next to each other???

The guy spewed there, a rant of absolutely disjointed emotional arm twistings and preachings which could only have been more devoid of intellectual calories if there was background music and an applause track.
And you put it up as though it has a scrap of merit?

Or do I read you wrong?
I don't get it. Is this a parody?

    Everything up to this point:

"the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort."

With semantics applied says bla bla bla "can't we all just get along?" bla bla bla.

And after that it doesn't even make sense! It's just a bunch of loosly associated holy words which he's devoided of any context at all!

    Allow me to demonstrate:

    "the promise of a democracy"
Our democrtacy is not a "promise" it's a social contract we all engage in by CONSENT alone.
It's not any more granted to us than 'driving is a privelege'.
No driving is not. Authority over drivers is a PRIVELEGE granted to the DMV by citizens.

This "promise" is spoken by a person with NO idea what the United States is.

"a democracy where we can find the strength"
What the hell is that? Strength in numbers? Because this country is NOT a Democracy, it is a Constitutional Republic. We don't follow a president, we follow a Constitution which a President defends and is subservient to.

"the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort"

    Translation:
"Strength" means cronies lobbyists and an obediant media mouthpiece, phus the ACORN to prevent any intrusions on his "philosophy" of a "Democracy" in the 1st place.

    Achmadenijad would be jealous.

"bridge divides" means create divides, racial, class distinctions, political, personal, religious, economic, judicial, and after separating us all out, "common effort" means culling the side that doesn't drink the coolaid.

Careful of the word "common". It means "lock-step". It means a watchful eye over a certain demographic.. sayyy returning warriors who happen to love this country..

Eventually it means zero tollerance for dissenters.

Want philosophy from Obama? He's incapable of it. Keep watching. All you'll EVER see will be purely remedial.

  2. Anonymous,

You'll notice that I wrote the post on August 29. Of course, that was the day McCain chose Sarah Palin. From that day onward, when I looked at Obama I saw Socrates!

I agree that the statement contains plenty of verbiage, but beneath it you can see something that seems born out by events. Obama strives for consensus, and is hesitant to do anything that would be especially upsetting to any powerful interest group.

    Elsewhere I wrote:

From what I understand of Obama's political career, the president is a world-class tweaker; he favors improvement by increment. It is not a coincidence that one of Obama's philosophical mentors, Cass Sunstein, recently co-authored a book called Nudge.

  4. Why such anger?

"You guys are all republicans...go to hell"...

See, your statement right there discloses your ignorance....go back to school or READ...back you statements with substance and don't hide behind anger!
