Sarah Palin's resignation mistake

Adam Nagourney of the NY Times, asking whether Sarah Palin's abrupt decision to quit will help or hurt her chances at winning the Republican Party nomination for 2012, observed:
By stepping down before finishing her term, she cannot claim to be even a one-term governor. Without a positive record of accomplishment as governor, Ms. Palin may find she has little to run on. . .
Staying on as Governor, Sarah Palin might have convinced more people that she had outgrown a string of questionable judgment calls. Out of office, that will be difficult. As things now stand, Ms. Palin's future opponent will have lots to run on.

  1. That's assuming she runs for another public office. As far as I know, she isn't giving ANY indication of her next plans. Someone jokingly tossed out the idea of her starting a talk-show (maybe on radio?), but that could very well be what she wants to do. She also now has a grandchild and his very young mother to deal with; I wouldn't write off the idea that she wants to lighten her load to help them out.

  2. J-P,

She also now has a grandchild and his very young mother to deal with; I wouldn't write off the idea that she wants to lighten her load to help them out.

While possible, this hypothesis is inconsistent with what we have been able to observe so far of Sarah Palin. This is the same lady who wouldn't cancel a speech in Texas despite that she has begun passing water; Who, baby in hand, jumped into a presidential campaign?

Considering that 1) Palin has considerable support from the far right, Evangelicals, etc; 2) she projected a sense of entitlement to the highest office in the past. Didn't she just challenge Obama to a foot race?

I would be shocked if it turned out she did not have her heart set on the Republican nomination. You're right though that it's a hunch, and not based on any concrete fact, but rather a sense people have about her -- myself included.

  4. The reasons of Palin resignation are controversial. What could be the real cause of her decision? Vote on the most possible one - http://www.votetheday.com/america/palin-resignation-424/
