Palin baby

update

The blogosphere is abuzz with questions about Trig, the 4 month-old baby of McCain VP's running-mate Sarah Palin. The allegations boil down to this: Trig isn't Palin's baby. It is claimed that the baby belongs her sixteen year old daughter, Bristol.

This post at Daily Kos looks at the evidence (summary of the evidence posted here). Palin reportedly boarded a plane bound for Alaska even though she was already in labor.

If the allegation is true, how can Palin possibly stay on the McCain ticket? After all, the campaign has tried to sell Palin as a heroic woman of principle who made the "hard choice" to go through with the pregnancy, even knowing the child would have Downs Syndrome. What if it was, in fact -- all the while -- her sixteen-year-old daughter who "chose" to have the baby? On the other hand, supposing the allegations are false, is Palin in any position to put her country first?

UPDATE: I have put together a comprehensive and factual Sarah Palin timeline. It is color-coded by scandal, and getting longer by the day.

  1. Wow! Great pick John McCain! Wonder what you would do as president.

  2. I am starting to believe this rumor. If true, who is the father?

  3. You people are such obvious liberals looking for anything to discredit this woman. If this child does belong to the daughter, I think that Sarah's decision to hide that fact is courageous. She is protecting her daughter and trying to give her a chance at a successful, normal life. In my experience, most moms wouldn't take on another child when an abortion would be so much easier. I think that her actions show a committed, loving mother. It is NONE OF THE PUBLIC'S BUSINESS if this child belongs to Sarah or Bristol. He belongs in this family and that's what counts.
Secondly, it is the job of the entire Palin family to raise this baby, not just Sarah's. That's what family is all about. I'm sure she will be an integral part of his life but maybe she sees the bigger picture. If we let a bunch of liberals get into the White House, the Christian values that most of us hold dear will be compromised. Maybe she wants to make the world a better place for this little guy to grow up in.
MAYBE you all should quit tearing people down when you don't have all the facts.
She may not have as much experience as Biden but she certainly has as much as Obama.

  4. 40 something is right on... but even if true, Palin is not linked to any shady deals for fun and profit,or to any radical groups determined to destroy America, like a certain Senator B.O., nor has she been part of the incessant pork barreling or self benefitting legislation of Senator B.O.'s running mate. This so-called "Change" looks like the same ol' flim flam to me....only more dangerous.

  5. If it is the daughter of Governor Palin's baby, (1) she is guilty of insurance fraud against the state of Alaska and (2)she is a liar.

If it is Governor Palin's baby, that means that her water broke in Dallas and she decided to get on an 11 hour flight back to Alaska, then drive another 45 minutes to the small town where she was mayor. This is worse. She put her life and the baby's life at incredible risk.

Just curious, what makes you say you are "certain" of this?

  7. It is not impossible for a 17 yr old to have a Down Syndrome baby. While it is uncommon, it is quite likely. For us in the medical field, Robertsonian Translocation accounts for 10% of down syndrome babies...look it up.

On the other hand, I'd give up my medical license the day I see a woman in Labor fly 8 hrs with a stop over then drive 45 mins to a shack hospital. Yeah...I think not!!

  8. Alive 65,

Palin is not linked to any shady deals for fun and profit

Palin is under investigation by a special prosecutor appointed by the State of Alaska.

nor has she been part of the incessant pork barreling or self benefitting legislation of Senator B.O.'s running mate.

Palin "for" the country's most famous pork barrel project -- the bridge to nowhere -- before she was "against it." See here:

  9. Anonymous,

Yes, whether or not Trig is her baby, it doesn't look good at all.

  10. The issue isn't whether the baby is going to hinder her ability to lead- it's perfidy. (You can look this up if you don't know)

In truth this applies to her, her family, the citizens of Alaska, the press, and the future voters of 'Merica.

You can imagine that no one wants to be misled once again by their leaders.

This and the hurricane don't really bode well for the GOP convention.

The rest of you commenters are spinning the issues well beyond the scope of what we're really reading. (Read: This ain't 'bout Obama)

  11. Too bad about the problems that the Palin family is facing, but as an American citizen, she is not who I would want representing my country in discussions with foreign leaders. Any way you look at it, Sarah Palin shows very bad judgment. And McCain didn't do his research. He made an erratic decision. This is not a quality I want in a leader. This is all unfortunate

    ReplyDelete
  12. If Sarah's daughter has a baby in 4 months, everyone can know Sarah is Trig's mother.

(But, the election will arrive before the anticipated due date.)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Of course it matters if it is her baby or not. Is she a master of lies, deceit, coverup? We want our leaders to be truthful in their dealings. As truthful as a politician can be.

  14. I'm not involved in partisan politics and am drawn to join this conversation as an over-40 grateful mother of 2.

    Ask any gyno about:

    1. being in a crowded, confined public place once your amniotic fluid has begun to leak, and the importance of a sterile environment to avoid infection

    2. flying in the last month of pregnancy when there's no emergency that requires it

Couple those 2 with the added high-risk environment of an older mother and a special needs down syndrome child...

    Either she's lying
    Or
She put herself and her baby at totally unnecessary and potentially fatal risk

For the sake of her overall character, and value judgment, I hope she's lying.

  15. I no math genius but the baby is 4 months old and the daughter is 5 months pregnant. Do the math on how it could be the daughter's child.

    ReplyDelete
  16. either way, she is promoting pro-life through anti-progress "if you get pregnant, just give birth...no matter if the child has serious problems" or lying about the real mother of the child, clearly bad example as a mother and a leader.

  17. I thought the topic was about the Palin baby??? What does Obama's experience have to do with it????? Obama said himself that Palin's personal life doesn't have anything to do with the campaign and that her daughter is not running for VP. I will say this, if Obama's daughter was pregnant at 17, he and his family would definitely not be considered 'NORMAL'!! And the public would make it their business!!

  19. It must be Bristols baby, no mother with any sense in her head would allow her child to stay home from school for 5 months for any other reason. There is no birth certificate public of the current one. And the best part only after stories in the local news paper did the airline company do a small inquiry with the flight attendants. Outcome: She was NOT looking pregnant and was cracking jokes with them...right just hours before delivery. Bristol is not pregnant right now, I don't buy it, it is the most stupid cover up from 2008 & will explode very soon for sure.

  20. This woman is a danger to our country and we are in enough trouble now. McCain put politics before country when he picked her and the reasons are obvious. Obama envy......As for the baby. Where is the birth certificate. Why was this baby not covered by insurance until after he was born? And, with her history of using everything in her power to obtain power don't you think she would have used her pregency with a Down Syndrom baby as a political plus and tell everyone she knew that even though she was pregnant with a special needs baby she was going through with the pregency. Nooooo....she told nobody about her pregnecy and only mentioned her daughter being pregnant when news of the possibility of the baby being her daughters. This woman should not ever be near the white house what less living there. She is a disgrace and if elected, will take away every woman's right to choose. She says her daughter choose to go ahead with the pregnancy. Well if elected your daughters and wives won't have that choice. Choice will be taken away from us. Hopefully the Enquirer and all the papers like it will find out all the facts and dirt on this woman from those in Alaska who are willing to speak out and risk her wrath. She seems to be a mini Chenney. Corrupt, nasty, and willing to do and say anything to get elected. America....WATCH OUT WHAT YOU WISH FOR,,,,,YOU JUST MIGHT GET IT and that means another 4 years of George Bush and we all know how well we are doing economically and internationally with that administration.

  21. This thing still stinks but the mainstream media seem to have dropped it. Responsible journalism? I still think Trig is Britol's baby and her next one will be born suspiciously late or not at all.

As for this whole not showing issue. My wife just recently gave birth to our son and she didn't show until late into her 6th month. If she put on a sweater or baggy shirt you couldn't even tell.

  23. This story is not at all over with.
What? Its a coincidence that as this story about Palin being the grandmother is gaining steam, they suddenly announce the daughter in question is a perfect 5 months pregnant...just pregnant enough to step on the Grandma Sara story???
Anybody want to buy a bridge??
McCain made a cynical choice for VP and it will blow up in this face... The last thing we need is an around the bend evangelical bible thumper one heartbeat away from the US presidency. Wasn't Bush enough on that score???

  24. Any woman who would prioritize the hard, grueling task of running for Vice President over caring for her special-needs newborn is a terrible human being and a worse mother.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey 40-something Mom, how about the fact that if the baby is not hers, Palin has LIED. And, if it is a lie, it's not the first mistruth, stretching of the truth, or manipulation of the truth we've gotten from her in the 10 days or so she's been on the mainstream political radar. Or is lying such an integral part of the Republican party that it's no big deal? Or is it that a lie is okay as long as the person looks like you?? After all, that is one of Palin's favorite refrains "I'm just like you..." What does that really mean? She's certainly not like me, but evidently her America is not inclusive of the concerns of folks like me. Perhaps that's your idea of America, too. Not the United States, the separate states. And, if Palin is a liar what does that make the folks willing to vote for her anyway?

And, one final comment. Be assured the divisive tactics, lies and fear-mongering are not of God. Someone's manipulating that script too, and those attributing their vote for Sarah as a vote for their Christian faith, might want to beware because "God don't like ugly..." And, if you truly believe there will be a day when we ALL meet the Lord, and to some He will certainly say, "I knew you not..."

    God bless...

  26. I have read all of the posts. In order for Sarah Palin to know that her 5th child had Down's Syndrome, I believe that she had to undergo amniosythesis (sp?). I am the father of a 2.5 year old and my wife was 41 when he was conceived. We said no to amnio because there is about a 50% risk of premature labor or spontaneous abortion. Therefore, given her stand on abortion, why did she undergo amnio since she already (per her position on the issue) would not have elected to have an abortion under the circumstances? Curiosity? Also, as with an earlier commenter, I am almost certain she would have used a Down's baby for political gain. Also, perhaps a grossly overweight woman might not "show" at seven months but as thin as Palin appear in the photo I have seen, she is not pregnant. As for her delivering a speech after breaking her water and then making the 11+ plus trip to her small town? No way. 1. No airline would knowingly allow her on a flight. Was she examined by an MD before flight? No Ob/Gyn would clear her. Also, I do not recall where she was in Texas but why back to Alaska when in labor with a known special needs child? I am quite sure that there were a number of outstanding hospitals in Texas that could have provided much better care than that small town hostipal. The decisions to go to Texas in the first place and then to return to Alaska while in labor, if true, were reckless, irresponsible, irrational, placed the child in a very risky situation. I would like for her to product all of her medical exams, and insurance claims for the period one year prior to the alleged conception forward. Why? Because she could have adopted the child and the birth certificate would then show her as the child's mother {at least in the State of Georgia}. Unless there's some forgery, she can't produce fake medical records. Also what are the names of the doctors and nurses involved in the delivery. I want answers and the maintstream media are leaving it to the National Equirer to do the leg work. Remember John Edwards' affair - they broke the story.

Reckless with the life of the unborn. Great model she is for the pro-life movement.

How can we be sure she will be cautious and careful not a reckless risk-taker if she should become the president?

For the sake of the country, maybe we should hope Trig wasn't hers.

First of all, I can tell you for sure that the parents of Downs' kids would be offended that their children are considered "anti-progress". A human being is a human being. Wether or not you believe in abortion is irrelevent. He's here.
Also, You Can tell with some, although not conclusive, certainty that a child will have downs with an ultrasound. It has something to do with the number of blood vessels in the umbilical cord, which they can see clearly most of the time through ultrasound.
Just because someone is pro-life doesn't make them stupid or anti-progress. Neither does being a Christian.

  30. You people are idiots! Her daughter is 5 months pregnant. It is impossible to concieve within 4 weeks of delivery, beside the fact that more than a dozen people saw her water break at a governors conference in Dallas. Please try to have some facts before you make up or believe a rumor. If this was true, don't you think that the Obama campaign would have latched on to this piece of information to discredit her???? It takes a amazing amount of love and passion to raise a special needs child and if you had any morals, you would let this bunch of propoganda die and move onto a issue that means something. Picking battles with a woman that has been state champ basketball player, runner up Ms Alaska, a 3 term city counsil member, Mayor, Governor and VP candidate is probably the wrong fight. Question her policy, but do it carefully, remember she is a NRA member as well and definately knows how to use a gun (she was Moose hunting the day she was notified that McCain chose her as his running mate. RW

  31. In reference to the guy saying his pregnant wife did not show. Well I dunno how old your wife is, but I believe a 44 yr old woman would show. Yes, an young woman doesn't show, especially if it's her first pregnancy, but a 44 yr old who had couple kids already would definitely show.

  32. Sarah Palin is a fraud and a liar. An opportunistic gold-digger who was perfectly happy rolling over the people who helped her get into office for her own gain. Watch out McCain.

This is so obvious...the reason she had to make an 11 hr trek back to Alaska to have "her" baby is THAT'S WHERE THE BABY WAS. You can't deliver a baby in Texas when the baby is between your daughter's legs in AK. Why would anyone in their right mind risk the health of a special needs baby by getting on a plane when she was within spitting distance of one of the best OB-GYN facilities on the planet. Makes absolutely NO sense. Unless... of course, the whole thing was a made-up farce to protect her nympho daughter.

RE: Who's the father... who cares? It was whoever was banging her daughter at the time - probably the redneck jerk-off who got her knocked up a second time. What I want is some DNA tests... and testimony under oath from the doctor who delivered that baby.

Oh yeah... mommy-daughter just happened to get "mono" and drop out of sight about the time she would have started showing... but was back in action two seconds after the baby was born.

Then what about the white trash scandal with her brother-in-law trooper?

Or... what about her billing the state a per diem for staying in her own private home instead of the gov. mansion? Is that what a "maverick reformer" would do?

Wake up America. This woman is trouble with a capital T. And no, I am not a liberal- not by a long shot.

  35. It is ALL rumor...... Palin's son was born April 18th and her daughter is more than 5 months pregnant. This is just a malicious lie to attempt to discredit a woman that is from a different political party than the Obama tree hugging liberals. It should be great to have a man as president the has less political experience than ANY president in U.S. history.

  36. Readers should be aware this post is dated September 1.

I urge that readers interested in a survey of information about Sarah Palin consult the Palin timeline (see link in UPDATE).

    ReplyDelete
  37. Unfortunately, the truth shall reveal itself after the elections have ended. Regardless, this goes to show that abstinence programs in the school do not work. Hell, if a Republican VP nominee can't even get her own daughter to close her legs, don't you think this girl should have been educated how to protect herself, instead of fall to the demise of many American teenagers these days.

It is a tragedy. You either give the baby up by means of adoption or abortion (which wasn't an option with this family), or the mother has to find a way to take care of a child, finish their education and support this child. Many times the grandparents end up taking care of the child rather than the teen parent.

If Palin is put into office as VP, how selfish would that be?! She believes all children are a blessing, well then why didn't you reject McCain's invitation to be the running mate and spend time with your clearly troubled family, instead of being so selfish. You are not my idea of what America has to offer in terms of governmental leadership. You are a disgrace Palin. Shame on you!

    ReplyDelete
  38. The fact is that you can teach your children many things and regardless of what you teach, they will at some point make decisions that are not the smartest. You are judging her on what you "think" she should or would do, but you or anyone else does not have any say so on how she deals with her family.
My favorite part about this whole discussion is that you can't find anything other than her private matters to bitch about. I live in Minnesota (a seriously heavy democrate state) and on the news this evening and they stated the latest poll was 50/50 (Obama "had" a 13 point lead 3 months ago).
I think you better prepare yourself for the fact that Americans are not about to elect a man to office that has so little experience. I can't wait for the debates, Obama is going to get shredded!!! This should be fun
