Olympic torch relay awaits Everest assent

A relative calm enveloped Mount Everest on Monday after two days of snow, raising the hopes of Chinese officials that an Olympic torch may soon be taken to the top of the world's highest peak. (Guardian)
There is a certain hubris about this scheme. The torch has arrived at a place where the gods have the final say.

Isn't it curious: First the enema-like insertion of the torch up a sacred mountain. And then soon after, a massive earthquake in China's heartland? It's almost as if a 'higher power' is demanding the dumb commie government's attention and eventual submission!
