China: This story could be explosive

Remember hearing about the 900 students reported killed in the city of Dujiangyan when their schoolhouse collapsed in the earthquake that struck central China? It seems nearby government buildings withstood the disaster, and the parents are pointing to faulty construction as the cause of their children's deaths. These parents want answers and officials held accountable. And what response have they received? Government representatives have ordered chemicals sprayed at them, bribed them with small sums off money to stop speaking out, and sent the police to beat them up.

What an ugly system of government! You cannot read this NY Times story about the plight of these grieving Chinese parents and feel otherwise. NSWN blogger has photos of protesting parents taken in another town.
