By whatever means, relief must reach over one million victims of the cyclone. This will require an air bridge to Burma; an international effort on the scale of the operation mounted in Ache Indonesia in 2006 following the tsunami.
But for an entire week, world leaders have been playing the junta's game at the UN. Diplomats have exercised "patience" with Burma's inability to process the paper work for a few hundred visas. On Friday, newspaper headlines hailed the approval of the flight plan for a single US cargo-plane (due on Monday).*
This is not progress. This is bullshit.
